Meeting Information for April 14th 2008
We are currently trying to have Apple come out and speak to the club within the next two months on their new products and operating system (one that works, unlike another one we all know). Also, our club webmaster John Goliash will be putting together a talk on what happens when you visit a web site; all the private information you pass along without even knowing that you are doing it. Remember at last month’s meeting when I told everyone that John showed me all the mouse key strokes, times spent at different sections of the web page, and other data a visitor to our club web site from Australia made. He played back every key stroke the visitor made on screen. Our web site has nothing special on it to allow us to do this. ALL WEB SITES CAN DO IT, AND MOST DO!!!! This is how they can collect info on their visitors and tailor emails and offers to try and get business off of them. You know how Microsoft’s update website says that no information will be sent to Microsoft during the update checking of your computer. This is true. THEY ALREADY HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION BECAUSE YOU LOGGED ONTO THEIR SITE. The same holds true with Adobe. You log onto their site, they know who you are. Maybe not your name, but they get your IP address and all the software you are running. Then it’s only a little database search to find the rest. Only people who take special precautions can get past their personal data collection. This upcoming talk will be one nobody will want to miss.
